Job summary:

The Global ESG Manager on Environmental Matters is responsible for coordinating and steering the overall global environmental management strategy of gategroup and its subsidiaries. This role includes high degree of independence, integrative thinking, project management and stakeholder and agency management, research, data analysis, and other activities to make sure the group meets its environmental ambitions and goals. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • In close cooperation and collaboration with the Global Operational Compliance team (gateOpex) and the Global Environmental Council, support the Global Head of ESG in the development and implementation of gategroup’s overall environmental management strategy through:

    • regular (at least every 5 years) evaluation of areas of material relevance for the group (as part of double materiality assessment process);

    • definition of goals, KPIs and actions on the identified topics;

    • continuous tracking of progress.

  • Act as the business owner of the environmental data management software solution used for collection, analytics, and management of group-wide environmental indicators and progress towards set goals.

  • Ensure that relevant internal policies and procedures are in place and maintained up-to-date to provide clear guidance to the organization on globally relevant priorities in environmental management.

  • In collaboration with the gateOpex organization:

    • monitor/track the reporting of environmental indicators and liaise with the Regional teams to ensure that they provide the environmental indicators in consistent and quality way for global consolidation and internal & external reporting;

    • secure and consolidate existing environmental management knowledge and best practices across gategroup;

    • actively foster internal stakeholder relations and management to promote and achieve the company’s environmental management strategy and goals.

  • Initiate and implement global employee engagement campaigns to progress the agenda on environmental goals.

  • Work with Procurement team(s) to minimize environmental footprint of gategroup’s logistics and supply chain.

  • Compile relevant information required for external disclosure on group-wide environmental management matters, including that on climate (e.g., TCFD, CSRD, EcoVadis, CDP, etc.).

  • Prepare necessary periodic reports and presentations for internal updates to and discussions with gategroup management.

  • Serve as the point of contact (together with the Global Head of ESG) for environmental management questions from customers and external agencies.

  • Represent gategroup at external conferences and events on environmental management & stay up-to-date on developments in the relevant topics.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • University degree (Masters or equivalent) in environmental science, environmental engineering, or similar.

Work experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in an environmental management role within an international corporate setup and/or at an environmental management consultancy.

  • In-depth understanding of environmental management considerations required for a company to play a positive role in conserving natural resources, protecting global ecosystems, and the prevention of harmful environmental pollution.

  • Highly proficient in GHG protocol requirements and hands-on experience with assessing and managing an organization’s Scopes 1, 2 & 3 footprint.

  • Experience with and understanding of Science-Based Targets alignment requirements and climate change mitigation strategies, including but not limited to sourcing and generation of renewable energy.

  • Experience in preparing external disclosure to TCFD and CDP frameworks.

  • Understanding of a food sector value chain implications a plus.

  • Practical experience in managing complex projects with multiple parallel work streams.

  • Ability to analyze data and support in preparing presentations and reports to various stakeholders (incl., EMB and BoD).

Technical skills (certifications and licenses):

  • Excellent project planning and management skills

  • Able to think holistically, see the big picture, and connect the dots

  • PC knowledge: high proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams)

Communication and other skills:

  • Excellent communication skills – able to deliver content custom-made to the level for specific target audience

  • Team player, self-starter, and can-do attitude

  • Strong written and verbal English skills, other language(s) a plus.
