The Lead DevOps Engineer is the highest senior technical role within the DevOps team, responsible for strategizing, designing, and implementing advanced DevOps solutions to ensure the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of our systems. This role will mentor and lead a team of DevOps Engineers, collaborating with various departments to enhance our continuous integration, continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices. The Lead DevOps Engineer will play a key role in shaping the DevOps culture and best practices across the organization.

Your Responsibilities on the Team 

Cloud Infrastructure & Automation

  • Design, implement, and optimize AWS cloud environments for scalability, security, and high availability.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using Terraform and Ansible.
  • Implement secrets management and access control using HashiCorp Vault.
  • Utilize Packer to create and maintain consistent and reusable cloud images.

CI/CD & Software Delivery Optimization

  • Architect and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to ensure efficient and secure deployments.
  • Enforce infrastructure as code (IaC) and GitOps best practices.
  • Optimize software release cycles by implementing progressive delivery techniques (blue-green deployments, feature flags, canary releases).

Security, Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Lead cloud security initiatives, enforcing compliance and risk mitigation best practices.
  • Implement observability solutions using AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK Stack.
  • Establish incident management and disaster recovery strategies to minimize downtime.
  • Provide expertise and guidance with securing cloud-native application development and delivery platforms (DevOps, CI/CD) with demonstrated strength in DevSecOps tooling (SAST, SCA, DAST).

Collaboration, Leadership & Mentorship

  • Act as a trusted advisor to development, security, and operations teams—bridging gaps and aligning DevOps strategies with business needs.
  • Mentor and develop junior DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Work closely with engineering leadership and product management to drive DevOps roadmaps and technical decision-making.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration, ensuring DevOps best practices are embedded throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Promote and facilitate effective communication between Security Engineering & Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, and other departments and/or business units.
  • Assist in the acquisition and risk assessment, procurement, and evaluation of new vendor and product selections.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Evaluate and introduce emerging DevOps technologies to enhance efficiency, security, and scalability.
  • Drive cost optimization initiatives in AWS through FinOps strategies.
  • Research and evaluate new DevOps tools and technologies to improve workflow efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, and CI/CD automation.
  • Expert-level knowledge of AWS services (IAM, EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, VPC, Route 53).
  • Strong proficiency in Terraform, Ansible, and HashiCorp Vault.
  • Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • Solid background in containerization and Kubernetes (EKS, Docker, Helm).
  • Expertise in observability and monitoring tools (AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
