POSITION PURPOSE:   

     

Provides pre-analytical assistance and support to the laboratory staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides phlebotomy support as needed.  Refer to phlebotomist position description for a list of duties.
  • Perform limited routine procedures in all areas of the laboratory and pathology/ cytology.      
  • Reception duties including PCIS/Messenger and/ or Soft/Cerner familiarity. 
  • Perform EKG’s, pulmonary function and drug screens as needed.
  • Prepare samples for testing and analysis, including send-out testing to reference laboratories.
  • Support satellite operations as needed (physical presence).
  • Supply and inventory maintenance.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Maintain hospitable/ cooperative atmosphere.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor or director.

SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy and computer skills strongly preferred.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the neonate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric patient group.
