Position Summary
CCEM has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Emergency Management Consultant (Sr. EMC), a role made available due to the retirement of the incumbent. This critical position involves coordinating the deployment of units to the sites of critical incidents and special events across our Operating Companies (OpCos). The Sr EMC plays a pivotal role in local execution and coordination of our enterprise-level Crisis Management Plan and Training Plan, ensuring preparedness across all levels of the organization.
Essential Responsibilities
Coordinate unit deployments to critical incident sites and special events, occasionally requiring on-site deployment.
Responsible for the execution and coordination of the enterprise-level Crisis Management Plan and Crisis Management Training Plan, which includes planning and execution of multi-divisional and interagency field training exercises annually.
Develop and oversee crisis management training for all personnel, including executive management, and for federal, state, and local agencies that interact with Xcel Energy.
Oversee and coordinate the Special Events Program (SEP) activities within each OpCo, providing strategic management and logistical support for high-profile events requiring coordinated planning, resources, and execution.
Serve as the primary contact at Xcel for planning, coordinating, and managing all support to the OpCos responsible for special events.
Offer subject matter expertise to the field, assist with resource and Temporary Duty (TDY) personnel coordination during operational phases of events.
Develop expertise in areas such as command post operation and consequence management.
Work closely with other units to enhance situational awareness during crisis events and special events.
Maintain exceptional interpersonal and liaison skills.
Mission: To bolster the OpCos' capabilities in preparing for, responding to, and resolving threats or actual events such as terrorist attacks, critical incidents, or catastrophic natural disasters. Additionally, to manage the coordination of special events, ensuring seamless execution and support.
Willingness to deploy to sites of critical incidents and major events.
Ability to provide strategic advice on command and control, command post design, coordination, intelligence operations, interagency operations, and information management.
Participation in the Special Events Program, including strategic management and logistical support for high-profile events.
A working knowledge of crisis management related areas, including but not limited to crisis negotiations, tactical responses, bomb management, and consequence management.
Domestic travel may be frequent.
Experience in Crisis Management, Special Events, or Exercise and Training Programs is highly desirable.
Exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills, promoting enhanced situational awareness during crisis events and special events.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree required, advanced degree is desirable. 8+ years of experience in incident and crisis management. Strong understanding of emergency preparedness and response concepts. Experience with government emergency response framework (i.e. - FEMA National Incident Management System/Incident Command Structure) is desirable. Business Continuity or Emergency Management professional certification or ability to obtain within one year. Superior communication skills. Ability to work well across teams - both on-site and virtually. Ability to build relationships and manage multiple opinions without ruffling feathers. Self-directed and comfortable navigating ambiguity.
