We are seeking a seasoned Software Developer with specialized expertise in z/OS to join our dynamic and culturally diverse team. This role demands a deep technical acumen in a range of programming languages and systems programming on z/OS platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for mastering, developing, and maintaining a critical business component, ensuring robustness, efficiency, and alignment with global client requirements. In addition, the candidate should be able and willing to perform software development tasks on other platforms such as Windows and Linux.

Daily challenges

  • Take full responsibility for the z/OS port of a complex, business-critical C++ component, a process that could extend up to two years.
  • Develop and deploy secure, maintainable, and efficient software products and systems.
  • Develop, optimize, support, and document the aforementioned component. Maintain comprehensive technical and or user documentation to ensure knowledge transfer and transparency.
  • Work collaboratively using agile methodologies to design, develop, and maintain software solutions.
  • Engage in issue resolution tasks, ensuring detailed verification, isolation, correction, testing, and documentation processes.
  • Accurately identify and document client and stakeholder requirements, participating in the roadmap and strategic planning sessions.
  • Effectively manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Work with underpinning system infrastructure as required.
  • Provide support and technical guidance to junior and less experienced team members.
  • Stay up to date on industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies.

Experience and skills required

  • At least 5 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years as a system programmer for z/OS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven proficiency in JCL, C, C++, and batch processing under IBM z/OS.
  • Solid experience with bash scripting, shared libraries, USS, IMS, and CICS.
  • Basic knowledge of OOP (Object Oriented Programming), Git, Java, COBOL, Python, z/OS ASSEMBLER, DB2, and ticketing systems.
  • Demonstrable ability to handle issue resolution processes including verification, isolation, correction, testing, and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Good command of English as the working language

Preferred additional skills

  • Experience in the insurance domain.
  • Familiarity with VSAM on z/OS.
  • Proficiency in Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience with operating systems such as AIX, iOS, Android, z/OS, and IBM I / iSeries.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams.
