POSITION PURPOSE:         

Provides professional nursing under supervision within an assigned unit, department or specialty area utilizing the nursing process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures optimal patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
  • Maintains patient records and documents to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical and nursing care, to include computer systems as necessary.
  • Administers and controls narcotics, medications and IV therapies in accordance with the Licensed Practical Nurse, Nurse Practice Act.
  • Assists with assessing and planning patient/family education and discharge needs.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately.
  • Collaborates with the Registered Nurse or Physician in problem-solving to include initiating, delegating and evaluating patient care team functions.
  • Promotes an environment conducive to professional practice by functioning as a role model and resource person for other patient services team members.
  • Practices competencies in nursing skills based upon current scientific knowledge.

SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing education program required; must obtain RN degree within 5 years of position hire date.
  • Current Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure required.
  • Previous experience working in an acute care setting is preferred.
  • In-depth working knowledge of current concepts, principles and procedures used in patient care within an acute care setting, preferred.
  • Must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
