Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems is actively recruiting for a Principal Engineer Network - IT Network Engineer & Lab Support (24-343) to play a pivotal role in managing and sustaining network components for the Command and Control Battle Management Communications (C2BMC) program. This position is based in Huntsville, AL, and requires a professional with strong network engineering skills and the ability to work collaboratively on a technology-driven team.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The IT Network Engineer will join the Cyber and Platforms (CAP) information technology team, working alongside senior system administrators and government network subject matter experts. This role is designed for a career or journey-level professional who excels at network architecture, engineering, and troubleshooting to support crucial defense network environments.

What You’ll Get to Do:

As a Principal Engineer Network - IT Network Engineer & Lab Support at our Huntsville, AL site, your responsibilities will include:

  • Management and sustainment of network components to support the C2BMC's associated support networks.
  • Understanding and implementing network routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
  • Applying basic knowledge of network testing using routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting TCP/IP behavior and network communications.
  • Creating presentations and network diagrams using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio.

Basic Qualifications:

  • An active Secret clearance is required to start.
  • 5 years' experience with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; 3 years' experience with a master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; or 9 years' experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Must have DoD 8140 certification at IAT - Level II or higher is required to start (Security +, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP).
  • Must possess effective communication skills with proficiency in writing and presentation.
  • Familiarity with Domain Name Servers (DNS) and data encryption products.

Technical Skill Required:

  • Knowledgeable in network architecture, engineering, design, implementation, and testing.
  • Skilled in network traffic analysis and IP network troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with network communication products, including routers, switches, and firewalls.

Preferred Experiences:

  • Experience with protocol analyzers/sniffers (e.g., Wireshark).
  • Network Management Systems experience (HP Network Node Manager, SolarWinds).
  • NAS/SAN technologies experience (NetApp, Gigastore).
  • Certifications from industry vendors Juniper or Cisco.
  • Previous knowledge of the C2BMC program networks is desired.

Salary Range: $93,000.00 - $139,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
