As an Senior Engineer, (Facilities & Utilities) you are tasked to planning and conducting intermediate to more complex engineering related activities requiring the use of creative techniques, as well as application of thorough knowledge of engineering or scientific principles and practice in multiple areas at Tuas. In this role, a typical day will include:
Responsibilities
The associate has the authority to make decisions on engineering problems and methods applicable to the resolution of important issues, which may be complex at times. Participates on and leads teams, as well as develops effective relationships with key decision makers, as needed. Owns the site design for facilities and utilities and performs reviews and proposes design improvements that will be reflected positively in Utilities usage and departmental spend.
Safety/Housekeeping:
Keep shop and production areas clean and free of hazards or dangerous conditions:
- Follow all safety regulations, and promote positive safety behaviors
- Facilitate safety training for contractors
- Monitor contractor safety practices
Planning:
Coordinate equipment availability with production to ensure engineering activities have minimal impact to production:
- Plan and execute engineering project work with minimal supervision
- Partner with production to identify windows for corrective/preventive action implementation and project work
- Proficient in planning and scheduling of work for multi-year capital projects, maintenance, QA/QC, and initiatives to correct shortcomings
- Able to estimate time required for engineering activities. Ability to be flexible in work assignments (i.e., tasks, hours, shift, days of week)
Technical:
Provide transformative ideas and solutions in reducing the utilities consumption and responsible for CAPEX plan for the site.
Act as engineering and technical lead for key plant projects and initiatives:
- Provide technical support for and lead safety and quality improvement initiatives
- Applies strong knowledge and background of engineering and scientific principles and practices in a variety of assignments.
- Subject Matter Expert for Clean Utilities.
- Develops, coordinates, and directs critical projects or field engineering assignments that are large or complex.
- Leads or plays key role on process improvement teams.
- Initiates or performs engineering studies, proposing solutions or recommending alternatives. Develops presentations of engineering-related projects to stakeholders.
- Develops models and analyzes data to support improvement programs, techniques and solutions. Conducts studies and analyses to assist in the resolution of engineering-related issues; may assist with developing engineering standards and practices.
- Has complete understanding of job costs, materials costs, labor costs and proactively identify opportunities to reduce the overall cost for projects and departmental spend.
- Design and implement modifications to the existing Facilities and Utilities equipment that will improve the operational efficiencies. Design, install, and validate new or upgraded Facilities and utilities systems.
- Compose Functional Requirement Specifications, FRSs and generate and execute Installation and Operational Qualifications, IOQs, and Performance Qualifications, PQs. Generate and revise standard operating procedures.
- Lead Manufacturing Non-Conformance investigations and apply good engineering practices to reduce the risk of repeat Non- Conformances. Implement corrective and preventative actions to improve manufacturing's operational efficiencies. Perform risk assessment and risk mitigation activities using systematic tools
- Good understanding of applicable standards, codes and ordinances including rules, regulations, and guidelines established by local regulatory agencies applied to Facilities and utility and Industry best practices.
- The associate will be Energy manager for the site and will update the energy plan for the site, submit annual reports to NEA and Water board Work closely with consultants and submit Energy Efficiency Opportunities Assessment (EEOA) within the stipulated timeline.
What You'll Bring to Alcon
- Bachelor in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering)
- Minimum 5 years experience in GMP/Pharmaceutical environment with equipment maintenance involvement.
