Airbnb was born in 2007 when two Hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 4 million Hosts who have welcomed more than 1 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, Hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The community you will join:

As a Staff Experience Designer supporting international expansion initiatives, you will partner with cross-regional disciplines such as country managers, localization experts, researchers, product specialists, engineers, and data scientists to craft meaningful, thoughtful, and beautiful products that empower guests and hosts around the world.

Our design charter is to help foster an emotional connection with our community, keeping usability and accessibility as our prime virtues. We do our best to practice inclusive design at every turn, spanning both the online and offline experiences we create for our community.

The difference you will make:

As a Staff Experience Designer, you’re a thought-leader with profound knowledge in product localization, a storyteller to transform bold visions into tangible design solutions, and a hands-on maker with the finest craft. You'll pave the way for innovation for diversified cultures, market trends, and user habits.

You’ll be responsible for designing end-to-end user experiences for international products, launches and campaigns by market, strategic partnerships and creative visions. You will lead multi-regional or global initiatives from insight to strategy, to launch across all platforms and devices that advances our mission of connection and belonging.

The Staff Experience Designer is an individual contributor (IC) role that will report to a Design Manager.

  • Support and shape the evolution of the Airbnb platform from a design perspective through international lenses; ensure consistency with, and contribute to, our brand architecture and product architecture.
  • Partner with Country Managers, Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientist, Researchers, Localization Managers and Writers to define problems & goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and launch new products and services.
  • Influence global leadership and stakeholder decision making through a clear point of view via vivid storytelling, help the team navigate ambiguity, define and solve complex problems for a global audience.
  • Scope projects (in partnership with DPMs, PMs and engineers) and help define the design process, task allocation, and timeline.
  • Provide indirect leadership and mentorship for peer designers through in-depth interaction and visual design critiques; evangelize design thinking and best practices across functions.

Your expertise:

  • Designer/Design Leader with 10+ years of experience.
  • Can autonomously define the design direction and process, and can lead others through it.
  • Thought-leader to help a team navigate ambiguity, set vision and design strategy for global products.
  • Systems-thinker with the ability to think beyond the pixels and design for the holistic online and offline experiences.
  • Craft-master with pioneering interaction and visual skills.
  • Sharp data sense and deep empathy to distill user insights and transform them into ideal states and meaningful design milestones.
  • Strong storytelling, presentation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • 0 to 1 experience or experience redesigning major elements of a product, applying and evolving a mature design language system.
  • Keen understanding of the technological, business and user opportunities and constraints.
  • English proficiency is a must, great written and verbal communication skills.
  • Immersion in diverse cultures and environments forming a global perspective is a plus.
