Employment Type:  Full Time - Limited Term - Anticipated duration 12 months.

Salary Range: SP3, Level 5, Min $91,200 - Mid $114,00 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Compliance Auditor, Emissions – Hybrid

The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently recruiting for a Compliance Auditor, Emissions to join its talented team of professionals in the Regulatory Compliance branch. In this role, you will work within the Production & Emissions Compliance team to conduct audits and verify compliance with regulatory requirements, implement compliance assurance processes, and support OneStop issues management and testing.

This role will specialize in air emissions related regulatory requirements. Areas of focus include site venting limits, equipment venting limits, fugitive emissions, methane emissions data quality, and overall methane emissions reduction activities. This role offers immersion into a multi-disciplinary team and will provide the successful candidate with exposure to varied specialties, including gas flaring, gas conservation, sour gas plants, production reporting, and benzene emissions.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Follow and support all planning and reporting activities in alignment with AER policies, procedures, the Compliance Assurance Program, and Branch Operational Plan.

  • Lead and conduct audits on operations within the AER’s jurisdiction which includes analyzing data, preparing audits, analyzing audit responses, and following through with the AER’s compliance assurance framework.

  • Ensure all audit file documentation is compiled and saved appropriately.

  • Communicate and consult with industry regarding areas of concern.  

  • Contribute to AER initiatives related to operational needs, regulatory, and technical issues as needed.

  • Manage OneStop issues related to emissions data and conduct OneStop testing.

What we’re looking for in you:

  • Degree in environment, oil & gas, or other related education.

  • 8 years of directly related experience in auditing or related oil & gas experience.

  • Professional Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Professional Association of Science & Engineering Technology (ASET) certification is considered an asset.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements Directive 060, Directive 017, Directive 07, OneStop, and Petrinex is preferred.

  • Ability to use advanced functions in MS Excel and proficiency with SQL queries are considered assets.

  • Demonstrates strong organization skills by maintaining clear work documentation/tracking and prioritizing work based on risk and value.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
