Job Description:

Behavioral Health Technician-Non Cert

Provides hands-on care to individuals with varying degrees of mental illnesses and/or developmental disabilities. Performs a vital, front-line function to include observing, treating, and interacting with patients. This position carries out physician’s orders, serving as the eyes, ears, and hands of the diagnosing professional.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A current Oregon Certified Nursing Assistant License OR
  • Associate’s Degree in a related human services field preferred
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention certification or obtain within 6 months of hire

EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer minimum one year experience working with individuals with mental health disorders; OR
  • Any combination of education and experience that is commensurate with the above requirements

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
  • Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
  • Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
  • May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
  • May require periodic use of personal computer
