Summary of Job Duties:

Shift: Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm

Milk Lab Donor Specialist will make and maintain all records of contact with all donors, review relevant HMBANA documents, facilitate medical approval from Medical Director for donors, assist with depot weekly checks, and assist with retail space. Donor screeners will need minimum CLC, IBCLC preferred. This role should be food handler certified and training to support milk processing techniques. Donor screeners will be able to assist with shipping and receiving and other milk bank lab technician duties as needed.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in medical or related field OR High School Diploma/GED PLUS 4 years of health care experience.

  • Food Preparation Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Lactation counseling (within 6 months of hire).

  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant Compassionate Bereavement Care Certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Screening potential donors

  • Provide information about milk donation

  • Guide donors through screening guidelines (HMBANA)

  • Be knowledgeable about donor screening requirements set forth by HMBANA

  • Provide donors with paperwork, lab work instructions and milk collection site location 

  • Provide safe milk expression and storage guidance and milk collection bags if needed

  • Order labs (defined by HMBANA) through lab partners

  • Assemble and maintain donor files in Timeless including screening tools, lab results, physician’s documentation

  • Obtain Medical Director approval of donors

  • Communicate with donors in timely fashion, weekly check in with active donors; follow up on paperwork and/or labs within 3 weeks of initial donor contact

  • Bereavement counselling for bereaved mothers

  • This role should be food handler certified and cross training to support milk processing techniques.  Donor screeners will be able to assist with shipping and receiving and other milk bank lab technician duties as needed.

  • Assist to maintaining budget guidelines as assigned by the Milk Bank Program Manager Compliance

  • Review relevant HMBANA documents

  • Assist with data collection and record keeping for research projects as requested

  • Assist with tours as needed

  • Donor and depot relations and communication

  • Maintain records of communication with donors

  • Contact depot sites weekly

  • Coordinate donated milk shipping from depot sites or distant donors: shipping boxes, ice packs if no access to dry ice, instructions on packing, packing labels

  • Send communications, newsletters, appreciation packets to donors upon completing donations. 

  • Maintain inventory of donor packets, instruction packets and forms

  • Maintain supplies for depot sites

  • Collect depot temperature logs weekly, document depot logs in Timeless

  • Collect depot collection information in Timeless (donor name, amount donated, dates received at depot, date shipped to UHMB)

  • Maintain shipping address book for donors and depot sites

  • Retail space and community outreach

  • Assist with retail space operations

  • Maintain stock in retail space 

  • Assist with organizing community events: breastfeeding support groups, prenatal breastfeeding classes, donor recruitment events, philanthropic events

  • Coordinate community donor appreciation events, bereavement memorial events

  • Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.

  • Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines.

  • Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Salary Information:
