Job Description Summary

We are looking for a Lead Designer in Steam CMPD organization. The PDE team defines the product for complex manufacturing components around the globe and executes program of varying complexity for numerous different Steam applications.
Join our world class PDE Steam Structures team to develop new technical solutions, processes, and automation. Work closely with design engineering and manufacturing to solve challenging enterprise problems and effectively communicate business goals and accomplishments across all levels of the organization.
In this position you will defining state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, apply, adapt, and/or develop technologies for product, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem solving. Assume a leadership role in the overall accomplishment of goals and in the management. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Job Description


Responsibilities and Functions

  • Utilize applicable checking and productivity tools. Provide feedback for improvements.
  • Create CAD models and drawings using company sponsored CAD systems (NX, 3D).
  • Utilize applicable PLM system (GTCC) to manage and issue product definition data.
  • Define geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) required for proper clearances and fits while maximizing manufacturing capabilities.
  • Ensure that interface characteristics between components are established and agreed upon by owners of mating parts.
  • Ensure design integrity and no high-risk escaping defects and drive improvements in FTY (error reduction).
  • Check, validate, and issue models and drawings.
  • Effectively communicate progress, status, risk, needed inputs and target release dates to stakeholders & TLs.
  • Understand input from the different engineering disciplines, monitor progress and quality, and ensure schedule requirements are met.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations to internal and external GE customers through the analysis,
  • preparation, and presentation of technical PDE data.
  • Provide design support to cross-functional teams to improve or resolve design, performance, manufacturing, supplier, or field issues.
  • Assure that proper documentation of technical data, generated to substantiate the assigned components, assembly processes, and/or systems is consistent with design policies and procedures.
  • Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies and Procedures, Engineering Standards, Design Customer Operating
  • Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements.
  • Continually learn and apply the latest techniques relative to CAD software, Data Management Systems (DMS) and MBE (Model Based Enterprise).
  • Utilize Lean and Six Sigma tools to improve current business products and processes.
  • Contribution to Engineering initiatives to improve productivity and quality.
  • Expand on other cust drawings V008, VV14/VV16, V010.

Basic Qualifications

  • Solid contribution in a similar role or previous position
  • Bachelor’s Degree or technical associate degree
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (ASME Y14.5M, or applicable) relative to the function.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish
  • English skills: Must be able to maintain a conversation in English.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to communicate with Senior Leadership.
  • Capable of coaching others to accomplish assignments.
  • Drive initiatives for future automations of customer drawings

Desire Characteristics

  • Previous working experience with Steam Turbine or similar technologies.

  • Excellent Computer Skills (Enovia PLM, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, etc)
