Position overview

This position is responsible for leading all aspects of RGA Japan's local statutory related governance work primarily focusing on but not limited to regulatory reporting, ORSA reporting and capital management. S/he is responsible for projecting capital adequacy under ESR framework and provides forward looking advice to Chief Valuation Actuary in making fair decision. S/he must review insurance portfolio and work closely with administration team to judge proper insurance risk factors for statutory valuation while work closely with pricing team and business development in projecting new business activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of statutory valuation work to maintain Japan's quality standard. Responsible for managing and coaching actuaries reporting to him/her in order to enhance the team capability
  • Perform extensive experience studies in order to recommend assumption changes
  • Propose assumptions and follow RGA’s assumption governance framework
  • Manage data governance issues in collaboration with data providers
  • Revisit the statutory work process in order to improve efficiency and accuracy. Liaison with WTW is mandatory
  • Responsible for ORSA and local ESR management. Presenting projection and insights to the local management board is required together with actual reporting
  • Value added advice to USGAAP team and share experience study
  • Share valuation experience with pricing team periodically to reflect findings and sharpen up business opportunities
  • Play a pivotal role to support Chief Valuation Actuary in communication and preparation for FSA inspection
  • Build strong working relationship with external/internal stakeholders
     

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science or related field
  • 15 years' experience in actuarial practice for life insurance (including reinsurance) industry
  • Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Japan is required
  • CERA or equivalent risk management certification is preferred
  • Depth and practical knowledge of the Insurance Business Law and relative regulations
  • Hands on leadership skills and multi-task skills
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written Japanese
  • Good communication skills - verbal and written English
  • Good IT skills
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to the change environment
  • Broad knowledge of JSTAT, ORSA, ESR and USGAAP is preferred
