Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Sr. Principal Data Scientist and Principal Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position requires on-site support located in Palmdale, CA where technology and teamwork come together. The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.
Data Scientist job duties involve the following:
Creates data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets. Analysis may have many applications such as to address a business issue or provide a competitive advantage for the organization. Requires strong statistical and data visualization skills.
Principal Data Scientist
Basic Qualifications:
5 years’ experience with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters
Strong understanding of JavaScript, SQL, Python, Tableau
Experience in data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
Understanding of Agile Software Development
Understanding of Mechanical Engineering Concepts/Theory and Production Operations
Working knowledge of databases (SQL Server, AWS Databases (DynamoDB, RDS, or similar)) and schema
Experience with dashboarding frameworks (Plotly Dash, Panel, Streamlit, Tableau, etc.)
Experience with modeling and normalizing complex data
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
Ability to work 1st shift "5:00am-3:30pm" or 2nd shift "4:12pm-2:42am" and any work schedule (times may vary)
Ability to work for extended periods of time at a workstation on a computer or similar device for up to 10 hours / duration of shift. Occasional extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling
Active Secret clearance, with ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering/Computer Science
Top Secret clearance preferred
Hands-on experience with core Python data science tools (Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciKit-Learn, etc.)
Hands-on experience with deep learning libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
Experience with anomaly detection and synthetic data strategies for machine learning
Experience with computer vision (CNN, Transformer architectures) and image/video data preparation for machine learning
Hands-on experience with time series analysis and sequence modeling
Experience with Cloud environments (Azure, AWS-SageMaker, S3, etc.)
Agile development
Experience developing tools to improve efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.

Bachelor's degree with 9 years experience in engineering or related field OR a Master's degree with 7 years of related experience.
