Who will you be working with?

You'll be joining our innovative Wabtec Bus Solutions division, a team dedicated to developing leading systems for the Transit Bus & Rail industries including eBus charging systems, innovative passenger door systems, access ramps, and wheelchair lifts. Our group combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of product requirements to deliver industry-leading solutions and lasting value to our customers and the communities they serve. You will be at the forefront of developing advanced control systems and software for cutting-edge solutions that will shape the future of public transit.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will lead the software and firmware engineering team to drive design and development in embedded control systems, software architectures, and AI/ML solutions for doors, ramps, lifts, charging systems, and other products. You'll ensure compliance with industry standards, collaborate with stakeholders, and report directly to the Director of Product Engineering & Product Management.

What do we want to know about you?

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s in computer/software engineering or related field
  • 10+ years in engineering, with 3+ years in technical leadership or project management
  • Expertise in real-time embedded systems and C/C++ programming
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, cybersecurity, and software development lifecycle
  • Proficiency in agile methodologies, version control, and CI/CD workflows
  • Experience with machine learning, bare metal development on ARM cores
  • Familiarity with vehicle-level technologies (e.g., CAN J1939)
  • Familiarity with digital design/embedded hardware is a plus
  • Proven success leading people and project management for software products
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in project management and software development tools
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and innovation

What will your typical day look like?

  • Oversee design and development of software, firmware, and sensing products for bus/rail systems
  • Lead and develop a team of local and remote embedded software engineers
  • Set team goals, priorities, provide coaching, and clear feedback
  • Evaluate software changes, participate in reviews, and enforce development processes
  • Drive innovation in control systems, software products, and machine learning systems
  • Manage projects from concept to production launch
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Champion best practices in software development
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers
  • Drive initiatives to maintain Bus Solutions' market leadership
  • Grow and mentor team to improve long-term results
  • Develop and enforce processes for timely, cost-effective, quality deliverables

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Primarily office-based work at the Buffalo Grove office
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing sites
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift twenty-five pounds
  • Up to 15% travel to customer sites - may require walking and navigating facilities

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
