The Principal Specialist, Industrial Engineer serves as a technical leader and strategic partner in driving operational excellence across the business.

This role interfaces with senior leadership, program management, and cross-functional technical teams to lead high-impact initiatives focused on cost reduction, lead-time improvement, capacity optimization, and manufacturing system efficiency.

In addition to executing advanced industrial engineering studies, the Principal Specialist provides expert-level shop floor support, mentors junior engineers, and influences long-term process and factory strategies. This role is expected to lead complex projects, champion continuous improvement, and proactively identify opportunities that improve performance, productivity, and competitiveness.

What You Will Do

  • Lead complex, cross-functional improvement initiatives utilizing advanced lean methodologies to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve operational performance.

  • Drive site-level performance strategy in alignment with macro plans, partnering closely with senior leadership to ensure execution and measurable impact.

  • Analyze and optimize production flow, capacity, labor utilization, and facility layout to enable long-term growth and efficiency.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for continuous improvement tools and industrial engineering practices, guiding teams in problem-solving and structured root-cause analysis.

  • Develop and implement advanced production models, time standards, and data-driven insights that inform operational and capital planning decisions.

  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior industrial engineers, promoting capability development and consistent application of best practices.

  • Collaborate vertically and horizontally across the organization to build alignment, influence decisions, and drive sustainable improvements.

  • Support digital transformation initiatives, including automation opportunities, advanced analytics, and integration of modern manufacturing technologies.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in Lean, CORE, Six Sigma, or other structured continuous improvement frameworks.

  • Experience with ERP systems.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Industrial Engineering experience in a manufacturing or operations environment.

  • Strong analytical capability with experience in object‑oriented programming (e.g., Visual Studio, Visual Basic, Python).

  • SAP experience.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and drive measurable performance improvements.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and strategic problem‑solving skills.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
