Job Summary

Synechron is seeking an experienced Database Developer to lead the design, implementation, and management of complex database solutions for diverse client projects. You will oversee the full project lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment, ensuring high-performance, secure, and highly available database systems. As a key member of the team, you will mentor junior staff, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide strategic advice on database architecture and optimization to meet business needs.

Software Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and related database technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL)

  • Experience with cloud database solutions such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud platforms

  • Deep understanding of database architecture, data modeling, and performance tuning

  • Experience in designing and managing large-scale, high-availability database systems

  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and tools

  • Comfortable using database development and management tools such as SQL Developer, TOAD, or similar

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with automation tools for database deployment and monitoring

  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB)

  • Familiarity with data migration, database replication, and disaster recovery techniques

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) for automation

Overall Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust database solutions that align with customer requirements and industry standards

  • Lead database architecture design, including data modeling, indexing strategies, and query optimization

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of database projects, from requirements analysis through deployment and ongoing support

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as developers, system architects, and operations to ensure seamless integration and performance

  • Mentor and guide junior database developers and administrators, fostering skill development and best practices

  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to ensure high availability and reliability

  • Develop and enforce database security standards, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans

  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging database technologies, and best practices to continuously improve solutions

Technical Skills (By Category)

Programming Languages & Scripting:

  • Required: SQL, PL/SQL, proficiency with scripting languages such as Python or Shell for automation

  • Preferred: Additional programming scripting for automation and data processing

Databases & Data Management:

  • Required: Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or similar RDBMS, including large-scale data environments

  • Preferred: Knowledge of NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB) and data warehousing tools

Cloud Technologies:

  • Required: Working knowledge of deploying and managing cloud-based databases (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL Database, GCP Cloud SQL)

  • Preferred: Experience with cloud-native database services and migration projects

Tools & Platforms:

  • Required: Database development tools such as SQL Developer, TOAD, or equivalents

  • Preferred: Automation and monitoring tools (e.g., Ansible, Nagios, CloudWatch)

Design & Management:

  • Experience with data modeling, indexing, query tuning, replication, and backup strategies

  • Familiarity with performance monitoring tools and techniques to ensure high system availability

Experience Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in database development, architecture, and management

  • Proven success in delivering large-scale, resilient database solutions in enterprise environments

  • Experience leading technical teams or mentoring junior staff in database projects

  • Extensive experience with relational databases, performance optimization, and cloud deployment

  • Industry experience in finance, banking, or data-intensive sectors is a plus but not mandatory

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Design and implement database schemas, indexing, and data models to meet project specifications

  • Lead database deployment, including configuration, security setup, and backup/recovery planning

  • Monitor ongoing database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements

  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure data integrity, security, and optimal performance in applications

  • Review and refactor database code, scripts, and configurations for efficiency and maintainability

  • Support migration, upgrade, and redundancy planning to ensure business continuity

  • Mentor junior team members, promote best practices, and conduct code reviews

  • Prepare documentation such as architecture diagrams, operations manuals, and performance reports

  • Keep current with industry best practices, emerging database technologies, and security standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

  • Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer, or equivalent preferred

  • Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing enterprise database solutions at scale
