POSITION TITLE: Specialist II, Nursing Simulation Lab
STATUS: Full time
DEPARTMENT: Nursing

PLACEMENT: Grade 107
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $22.04 hourly

POSITION SUMMARY 
Position is responsible for the operations of the Nursing Skills and Simulation Lab (NSL), including equipment maintenance and budgetary planning. Provides a variety of clerical and laboratory duties to maintain the NSL. Requires collaboration with clerical staff, Simulation Coordinators, Simulation Technicians, Nursing Skills Lab Coordinators and faculty. Performs simulation duties as needed.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Operate simulation mannequins during simulation sessions.
2.    Program mannequins to model physiological responses to instructor specifications.
3.    Support/assist in role-playing applications, prop placement, and moulage setup before and after simulations to create a virtual healthcare setting. 
4.    Set up nursing labs with supplies and equipment according to written guidelines corresponding to curriculum requirements. Use judgment to add supplies and/or equipment based on previous feedback.
5.    Schedule use of all nursing labs and simulation center to ensure proper accommodations to meet curricular needs.
6.    Capture, store and run reports from simulation recordings.
7.    Collaborate with vendors for installation and troubleshooting of various simulation technologies.
8.    Perform basic preventive maintenance and upgrades of simulation programs and equipment by maintaining and troubleshooting simulation equipment, audio/visual equipment, and clinical lab technologies. Report equipment malfunctions and breakage as appropriate. Remove defective equipment from service. Submit work orders for unused/outdated equipment to be disposed of or put up for auction. Communicate changes to Financial Services Department.
9.    Perform inventory, order, and stock consumable supplies. Keep storeroom and simulation space organized and orderly in collaboration with the simulation technician
10.    Provide recommendations for purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials related to simulation. Assist the department chair with budgetary planning, analysis, and cost-containment.
11.    Attend meetings or continuing education to maintain currency with simulation technology and use.
12.    Give tours of the Nursing Lab and Simulation Center as requested. Provide information to potential nursing students.
13.    Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment and software. 
14.    Work with the faculty and schedule schools and vendors for Professional Day (4th semester students). Order food and room set-up.
15.    Participate in Nursing Exploration Day for high school students. Attend meetings and work with faculty to coordinate events and schedule the day. Order needed supplies and hand-outs for students.
16.    Assist in selection, scheduling, and evaluation of student workers. Work with Career Services/Student Employment to list student worker jobs and keep up with college hiring policies.
17.    Assist with training staff and faculty in the use of simulation equipment. 
18.    Perform other duties as assigned.    


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education.
2.    Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
3.    Excellent organizational skills and the ability to think logically and follow directions.
4.    Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education.
5.    The ability to excel both independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
6.    Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Knowledge of computer operations and networking.
2.    Knowledge of the basics of high-fidelity mannequin functions.
3.    Knowledge of the features and capabilities of basic multimedia equipment.
4.    English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
5.    Demonstrated multicultural competence.
